Meissen Porcelain Figure “boy With A Kid.” An Allegory Of Fall
An elegant porcelain figure from the Meissen manufactory depicting a young boy accompanied by a kid and carrying a basket of grapes. Crafted in the tradition of 18th-century Saxon sculpture, it embodies the Allegory of Autumn, the season of harvest and abundance. The composition is distinguished by its lifelike modeling, great sculptural finesse, and delicate hand-painted polychromy. The boy’s blue coat, the vibrantly colored bunches of grapes, the floral garlands, and the meticulous modeling of the kid form a harmonious decorative ensemble, characteristic of the finest works from the Meissen manufactory.
These allegorical series dedicated to the Seasons and the Four Elements held a special place in Meissen’s production and were intended to adorn the palaces, cabinets, and reception rooms of the European aristocracy. The exceptional quality of the modeling, the richness of the color palette, and the attention to even the smallest details attest to the manufactory’s very high artistic standards.
