"roman Charity," Last Quarter Of The 17th Century—large Oil On Canvas With A Period Frame. (113x152)
Artist: Atelier Du Cavalier Perugino (1609-1681)
An interesting, large-scale oil on canvas depicting Roman Charity, The painting was created by a talented artist from the Roman school of the second half of the 17th century and is stylistically linked to the artistic achievements of a great master of the time, the Perugian painter Gian Domenico Cerrini (Perugia, 1609 – Rome, 1681), who created a true prototype of this depiction that served as a model for other painters who followed, and which is now housed at the National Gallery of Umbria in Perugia. In this case, it is not a slavish copy but rather a personal interpretation by this painter, based on the work of the Perugian master. It likely originated from the Perugian painter’s Roman workshop during his later years or was created by a close follower in the 1680s..
