Candle-bearing Angel - 19th Century
Artist: Pierre Vermare
A large plaster angel, tenderly rendered with subtle polychromy.
A work by Pierre Vermare (1835–1906), a sculptor and manufacturer of religious statues based in Lyon.
The delicate face, the natural skin tones, and the meticulous rendering of the drapery attest to the craftsmanship of Lyon’s religious statue makers in the late 19th century.
The three-light candelabra has been electrified and remains functional.
Condition shows signs of use, with some missing parts, including the wings, and small chips.
Dimensions 150 cm by 28.
