Pair of Louis XVI Style Gilt Bronze Figural Cherub Five-Light Wall Sconces, circa 1930

An elegant and substantial pair of Louis XVI style gilt bronze five-light wall sconces, dating from the early to mid-20th century. Beautifully modelled and finely cast, each sconce is centred by a winged cherub (putto) in high relief, supporting a circular candle platform with five scrolling candle sockets, creating a striking blend of classical French design and exceptional craftsmanship.

The richly cast bronze retains its original warm gilt patina, beautifully enhanced by natural age and gentle oxidation within the recessed details, highlighting the quality of the casting. The sculptural cherubs are framed by elegantly fluted backplates terminating in radiating shell motifs, a design characteristic of the Louis XVI Revival period.

Each sconce is fitted with five E14 screw-fit candle sockets, complete with faux ivory candle sleeves and decorative brass drip pans. The lights are ready for installation, although, as with all antique lighting, professional inspection by a qualified electrician is recommended before use.

Their impressive scale, sculptural quality and substantial weight make them ideal statement pieces for a grand entrance hall, drawing room, library or dining room, equally suited to both traditional and contemporary interiors.

Condition

Very good antique condition with minor wear and patination consistent with age and use. The bronze has acquired a beautiful mellow colour over time. Electrified and fitted with E14 candle sockets.
