Small Early 17th-century Walnut Table With Column-style Legs

An elegant andrare small table made of solid walnut, dating from the early 17th century.

This beautifullyproportioned table features a large drawer along the front, accentuated bysuperb, deeply molded crossbars.
It rests on anoriginal base consisting of four beaded columns—a superb architecturalreference to the 16th century—joined by an “H”-shaped brace.
A remarkabletechnical feature: its tabletop, made from asingle, solid walnut plank with superb grain, is attached to the framein its original manner using mortise-and-tenon joints in the crossbars(and not pegged from above as is usually the case).
A piece of furniture ofgreat authenticity, sound, and in excellent condition.
Note asmall, old repair along the length of the tabletop on the back side, perfectly integrated and bearing witness to its journey through the centuries.
