Large Venetian Baroque Console Table In Carved Wood, Late 17th–early 18th Century
Veneto, probably Upper Veneto, late 17th – early 18th century.
Large Baroque console table in richly carved Swiss stone pine, characterized by elaborate sculptural and ornamental decoration, attributable to the woodcarving tradition of northern Italy between the late 17th and early 18th centuries.
The structure features four eagles with outstretched heads and curved beaks, harmoniously integrated into a complex interlacing of large leaf-shaped volutes, scrolls, flowers, and plant motifs that are deeply carved and openwork.
The band beneath the top is embellished with carved drapery, floral festoons, and a rich central pendant element. The lower section unfolds in an intricate interplay of large, opposing volutes, enriched with floral motifs and acanthus leaves.
Of particular interest is the richness of the craftsmanship, which extends not only to the main facade but also to the sides and the back, giving the piece a striking decorative presence from every angle.
The four eagles—symbols traditionally associated with power and authority—contribute to the piece’s solemn character, evoking the monumental style of furnishings intended for the grand aristocratic residences of the era.
The rectangular top features a polychrome geometric decoration of concentric bands, which harmoniously completes the composition.
A console table of great charm and remarkable visual impact, embodying the Baroque taste for movement, ornamental richness, and monumental forms.
