18th-century Louis XVI Portal Clock
A majestic, large Louis XVI-era portico clock.
White marble architecture decorated with high-quality, mercury-gilded bronze ornamentation.
Each column is adorned with a large caryatid.
The entablature is adorned at the top, atop a black marble column, with an eagle perched on a rock, and at the ends, patinated bronze cherubs, each holding a garland of flowers. A very large, domed white enamel dial with finely crafted bronze hands, protected by a domed glass cover.
The space between the columns is filled by a sun-shaped pendulum, whose stem is concealed by an openwork frieze of foliage resembling drapery. The base is made of white Carrara marble and features a bas-relief depicting cherubs and an antique-style mask.
Original, unmodified movement; suspended by a wire; strikes the hours and half-hours on an antique bell.
