Napoleon III Tortoiseshell Medallion With The Letters "mj" In Relief
Here is a large oval tortoiseshell keepsake locket.
It opens with a hinge, and the top is adorned with an appliqué featuring a calligraphic monogram carved in relief with the initials M J.
The bail, also made of tortoiseshell, is designed to accommodate a thick chain or a strand of pearls (6 mm in diameter).
Inside, the compartment for holding a photograph or a lock of hair features a semi-convex glass panel held in place by a tortoiseshell rim.
