Marble And Regule Fireplace Trim By A. Moreau – Early 20th Century
This Louis XVI-style mantelpiece consists of a central clock and a pair of matching 5-light candelabra.
The clock features a veined marble base resting on small gilded bronze feet, at the center of which is an enameled dial with Arabic numerals, bearing the signature of the Nantes-based firm “Armand – Aubert – Nantes.” A lovely Louis XVI-style bow adorns the marble.
The ensemble is crowned by a brown-patinated régul sculpture signed by Auguste Moreau, elegantly depicting a draped young woman seated on a rock.
The two candelabra rise from a marble base encircled by gilded bronze garlands, from which a baluster shaft emerges, enclosed within chiseled acanthus leaves. The upper section unfolds into four richly ornamented, volute-shaped light arms that surround a fifth central candelabra head with a fleur-de-lis finial, thus forming a set of five lights per candelabra.
