The subject and theartist behind this work thanks to a small painting with the exact same subject from the artist’s family that was auctioned at the Hôtel Drouot in February 2026. The mausoleum in Tlemcen, Algeria, is known as Sidi Brahim El Masmoudi, a holy man and friend of the Zianids, who, after his death in 1401, was buried inside the family mausoleum. Over time, the original name of the mosque and mausoleum was replaced by that of Sidi Brahim. Georges Girardot’s studio collection was auctioned in 2025. Georges Girardot was an academic painter who produced several Orientalist paintings.
