Pair Of Large Candelabra In Patinated And Gilded Bronze, Signed Barbedienne
Artist: Barbedienne
An exceptional pair of finely chiseled bronze candelabra with a brown patina and gilded highlights, made in France during the second half of the 19th century, the Napoleon III period.
Each candelabrum is crowned by a majestic heron with outstretched wings. The arms of the candelabrum are arranged around a richly sculpted mascaron. The set rests on an impressive tripod base adorned with lion heads, ending in powerful claws. The set bears the Barbedienne signature, a famous Parisian art bronze house founded by Ferdinand Barbedienne, whose works are among the most prestigious of the 19th century.
The remarkable quality of the casting, the finesse of the chiseling, the refinement of the gilded highlights, and the balance of the composition attest to the exceptional craftsmanship of the great Parisian bronze casters of the second half of the 19th century.
Beautiful original patina. A highly decorative, rare, and striking ensemble.
