Rock Crystal Cup With Gold Setting By Fabergé, Saint Petersburg, 1880–1890

An exceptional example of Russian decorative art from the second half of the 19th century, crafted in Carl Fabergé’s workshop. The bowl is carved from a single block of colorless rock crystal, shaped like a scallop shell, with an elegant natural asymmetry and a gentle curve at the top. The surface is finely engraved with raised grooves, emphasizing the fluidity and organic lightness of the form.

The vessel rests on a matching oval crystal foot, mounted on a decorative openwork base with gold elements. The setting is crafted from 14-karat gold (585 fineness), adorned with a frieze of stylized beaded oval motifs, emblematic of the Fabergé style and the house’s fine jewelry tradition. The refined combination of materials, forms, and technique demonstrates an exceptional level of artistry and craftsmanship. Hallmarks: 56 fineness (14K gold); St. Petersburg administration hallmark—a woman’s head wearing a kokoshnik turned to the right; “ФАБЕРЖЕ” hallmark in Cyrillic within an oval, corresponding to production at the St. Petersburg branch between 1882 and 1899.
