Pair Of Silver Enamelled Covered Vases - Hermann Böhm, Vienna, Late 19th Century
A rare pair of large covered vases made by Hermann Böhm in Vienna, circa 1880-1900, in the neo-Renaissance taste. They stand on a flared pedestal and feature ovoid bodies richly decorated with hand-painted mythological and allegorical scenes in oval reserves.
The decoration is completed by broad polychrome arabesques on a pinkish-white background, emphasizing the richness of the enamel. The finely chased and enamelled silver mounts are adorned with mascarons, fantastical heads and handles in the shape of chimeric birds with blue and green enamelled wings.
Pieces representative of the refinement of luxury Viennese workshops at the end of the 19th century, combining enamel virtuosity and exceptional goldsmithing quality.
