Pair Of Silver-plated Bronze Bowls On Pedestals, France, 1881
Rare pair of decorative silver-plated bronze bowls, resting on a circular pedestal finely chased with foliate motifs. The flared basins are richly decorated with cartouches in relief, framed by scrolls and foliage, attesting to the high quality of French work at the end of the 19th century.
The handles are formed of high-relief figures of bulls, treated with remarkable naturalism, bringing power and character to the ensemble.
Each bowl features two distinct medallions:
* a carved decoration featuring cattle in a pastoral landscape, accompanied by the inscription:
"Prix d'ensemble de l'espèce",
* an engraved cartouche bearing the words:
"Concours régional agricole d'Alençon - 1881".
