Napoleon III Mantel Clock In Gilded Bronze And Sèvres Porcelain, Circa 1860–1880

A Napoleon III-era mantel clock, made around 1860–1880, in finely chiseled and gilded bronze, adorned with bronze elements featuring a medal-like patina and Sèvres porcelain plaques with a pink background. The enameled dial, also set against a pink background, is harmoniously integrated into a rich sculptural composition.

The movement is surrounded by four allegorical putti celebrating the arts and music, whose lifelike poses attest to the exceptional quality of the chasing. The delicately hand-painted porcelain panels are adorned with musical trophies and floral bouquets, while the case is embellished with winged mascarons, garlands, foliage, and classically inspired motifs.

This clock perfectly exemplifies the decorative refinement of the Second Empire and is a remarkable collector’s piece, combining the elegance of Sèvres porcelain with the virtuosity of 19th-century French ornamental bronze.
