Oil on canvas depicting a young French cancan dancer preparing to go on stage. A very beautiful and highly sensual scene, painted by an artist of the Fauvist school, circa 1880–1890. On the back is a label reading: “Attributed to Claude FIRMIN, 1864–1944; canvas discovered in the painter’s studio upon his death.” He exhibited at the Salon des Artistes Français from 1889 to 1922. A member of the Group of Thirteen, he became director of the Beaux-Arts in Avignon and was regarded as a Provençal master of painting. Re-stretched, 19th-century frame: 73x61
