Hasan SAIM (Turkish painter), “The Banks of the Suez Canal,” likely in the region of Ismailia and Lake Timsah. Oil on canvas mounted on cardboard, signed “H. Saïm” in the lower right corner.
A beautiful Orientalist scene bathed in lovely light: a small blue hut beneath tall trees, whose shadows fall across the light-colored sand. On the right, a man wearing a fez sits in the shade. In the background, a steamboat with a yellow funnel glides across the blue water, in front of the flat, sandy shore across the way. On the left, a vine arbor. Vivid brushwork, luminous palette.
Hasan Saim is known for his Orientalist scenes. A depiction of life along the canal at the end of the Ottoman Empire.
