Bronze Sculpture Of Mercury, Jean De Bologne

Artist: Jean De Bologne
Very large bronze sculpture depicting Mercury or Hermes, based on a design by Jean de Bologne, from the 19th century, during the reign of Napoleon III.
This large sculpture, standing 84 cm tall, is a beautiful piece of work, both in terms of its chiseling and its patina; its size and quality make it a highly decorative piece. The remarkable base combines royal red marble with bronze bas-reliefs.
A 19th-century work, often produced to adorn mid-century estates and castles, reflecting a taste influenced by Italian Renaissance sculpture. Jean de Bologne (1529–1608) created this magnificent sculpture in 1580 in Florence.
A dynamic and elegant work depicting Mercury in full flight, carried by the wind god Aeolus.
