Lidded Shaker Cup And Saucer – Louis XV Design – Former Royal Limoges Manufactory
Limoges porcelain shaker cup, with lid and matching hollow saucer, produced by the Former Royal Manufactory of Limoges.
The design, referred to by the manufactory as “Louis XV”, is based on a historic model inspired by the famous service produced in 1757 by the Sèvres manufactory for Louis XV, intended for the Château de Fontainebleau.
The cup, featuring two handles, is adorned with a delicate floral design in shades of carmine, consisting of garlands of roses and flowers suspended from ribbon bows. The saucer features a wide wreath of flowers in the same shade. The set is accented with rich gold highlights, notably a characteristic scalloped border.
The lid echoes the floral design and is topped with a button-shaped handle accompanied by gilded leaves.
The saucer, deeply hollowed out in the center, is specially designed to hold the cup and prevent it from tipping over—a characteristic unique to so-called “trembling” cups.
Marked beneath the cup and saucer:
“Ancienne Manufacture Royale de Limoges – France”, with a reference to the historical model:
“Manufactured in 1757 by the Sèvres Manufactory – Decoration: Louis XV”.
A beautiful Limoges porcelain reissue of an iconic model reflecting the taste of Louis XV’s court, particularly decorative due to the subtlety of its pink color variations and the quality of its gold highlights.
