Jacques Aublet High-fired Earthenware

Artist: Jacques Aublet
Jacques AUBLET, active around 1920–1930, is a rare name among the great Mediterranean Art Deco ceramic artists.
His studio was located in an old house along the city walls in Antibes.
Jacques AUBLET’s work has been the subject of several publications, notably in the magazine “Les Echos d’Art” from May 1927 and 1928, a publication featuring prominent French ceramicists as well as regional artists: Tharaud - Augé-Larisé - Jacquet - Renoleau-Roullet.
A work by Jacques AUBLET is held in the collections of the M.A.D. (Musée des Arts Décoratifs in Paris).
The work in the round offered for sale is a mythological group: “Satyr and Nymph,” crafted from high-fire earthenware with an iridescent ivory-colored glazed and crystallized finish.
It is a one-of-a-kind piece, signed twice: with the artist’s stamp and the “Antibes vieux” mark on the side at the bottom of the piece, and on the underside, “Antibes Remparts Pièce Unique 1925” along with the artist’s stamp.
