"Louis François Cassas Engraving From Lanarka"
Cassas: designer, painter, orientalist engraver Rare engraving belonging to the 1st edition of the "Picturesque Journey of Syria, Phoneicia, Palestine and Lower Egypt, Year VII (1798). Cassas accompanies the Duke of Choiseul-Gouffier in Constantinople in 1784, and until 1787 he traveled through the Levant, Egypt, Syria and Cyprus, where he prepared the drawings for this series. No further editions followed because a fire destroyed the plates in 1838. The engraving presented is in very good condition, without stains, freckles or holes, it shows us the city of Lanarka built on the ruins of the city of Kition, in the 3rd plan Mount Stavrovouni (where a monastery is located).
