Paul-Maurice Duthoit was a French painter born in Lille on November 20, 1856.
While attending high school in Lille, he already stood out for his talent in drawing. He then took courses at the academic schools in his hometown before continuing his studies in Paris.
He joined the Gérôme and Humbert Studios in 1878 under the guidance of Jean-Léon Gérôme and Ferdinand Humbert. He was a student of Auguste-Barthélémy Glaize. In 1879, he exhibited his painting Portrait of a Woman at the Salon des Champs-Élysées. In 1880, a full-length portrait labeled “M.L.D.” drew the attention of art critics to the young artist from Lille.
He has been a member of the Société des Artistes Français since 1886.
He served as a member and secretary of the Dîner artistique et littéraire des Enfants du Nord from 1889 to 1892.
