Artist's Box On Tripod, Pastel Painter, Bourgeois Aîné, 1880-1900
A walnut wood box containing the essentials of a pastel artist from the late 19th century. The box has removable zinc compartments and holds a palette, pastels (Pasteloil), a porcelain pot, a box of charcoal (Bourgeois Ainé), various tweezers, and a mechanical pencil. As is. The unique feature of this box is its three brass feet, allowing it to be carried outdoors and used for painting en plein air. The feet unfold and, when finished, fold away into one of the zinc compartments. A rare example of a professional tool related to the artistic life of the late 19th century, similar boxes were used by Impressionist painters for working in the countryside. Dating from between 1880 and 1910. Box dimensions: 44 x 21 x 10 cm. Note: one screw is missing from one of the foot supports; this does not affect its use. The box has been modified over time.
