Jean-Jules-Louis Cavaillès, Still Life with Pineapple in Yellow and Green. Born in 1901 in Carmaux (Tarn) and died in 1977 in Epigneul (Yonne), Jules Cavaillès is a prominent figure in mid-20th-century modern art. He painted numerous figures, portraits, nudes, and animated landscapes. A draftsman at the Carmaux mines, he met the painter Artigues. A student of Jean-Paul Laurens and a friend of Henri Martin, who encouraged him to study in Paris, he also studied under Pierre and Paul Albert Laurent at the Académie Julian in 1925.
