These ancient swords are extremely rare; this model belongs to the category of “great swords.” While most examples found in the ground or in rivers are little more than metal skeletons, this sword has retained all of its original parts.
The hilt features an exposed tang and a cruciform guard.
The blade, guard, and pommel fit together perfectly; the entire assembly is completely solid, with no play or wobble.
A rounded pommel complements the sword perfectly, providing a very effective counterweight for a total weight of 1.11 kg.
The blade, 6.4 cm wide, features a single blood groove on each side; its dimensions are impressive for this type of weapon, and it bears numerous battle marks.
The sword bears a mark on the tang and dates from the period ranging from the Viking Age to the early Crusades.
