Lunéville Decorative Plate Featuring A Moonlit Landscape
Artist: Keller/ Guérin Faïencerie De Lunéville
Large decorative dish, 43 cm in diameter, from the Keller & Guérin pottery in Lunéville. A one-of-a-kind piece created in 1900, featuring a moonlit landscape design inspired by Japanese art, particularly the work of painter and illustrator Hasui Kawase (1883–1957). This circular dish incorporates several techniques: the design is hand-painted in a gradient of blue; the light effects created by the moon are glazed to add texture—particularly the ripples and reflections on the water’s surface; and gold leaf is used to depict the constellation of stars.
