Born in Nagano Prefecture, Danji Seto graduated from agricultural and commercial school in 1922 and then worked as a sake salesman. He moved to Tokyo in 1924 and studied painting there from 1927 to 1929. Called back by his family, he pursued a career as a sculptor while also working as a farmer, in accordance with his parents’ wishes. Beginning in 1933, he exhibited regularly at the Nitten. In 1940, he studied under Saitō Sogan and was influenced by Greek art.
Demobilized in 1945, he returned to farming and set up his studio in a former brewery. He is known for his nudes imbued with Art Deco classicism.
