Smiling Terracotta Head, Veracruz, Mexico VII–xth
Smiling figure head; Mexico, Veracruz, likely Remojadas culture, Classic period, circa 6th–9th century. Fragmentary terracotta. Its animated expression links this head to the ceramic output of central Veracruz—specifically the famous *sonrientes* (smiling figures) associated with the Remojadas region. These are generally dated to the 7th–9th centuries (600–1000 CE). A headband or frontal element is partially visible. Two perforations at the temples may have served to attach ornaments to the statuette.
