Bankoni Statuette Mali 13th-15th Century Red Ochre Terracotta Africa Tribal Art
Bankoni Mali Statuette 13th-15th century
Red ochre terracotta
The statuette represents a seated female figure, the legs represented in rounded volumes, the thickness suggesting the idea of kneeling.
The slender arms, detached from the body, extend into two schematically digitized hands adorned with imposing rings.
The round, flattened head is framed by half-moon ears. She seems to project her gaze to the sky.
A refined decoration draws a garment on the lower part of the body and, on the wrists and neck, bracelets.
H_14.5 cm
