Hanakago, Beautiful Basket, Bamboo Basketry, Double Gourd, Ikebana, Tea Ceremony, Japan

A very pretty "Hanakago" wicker basket, perfect for Ikebana—the art of floral arrangement for the tea ceremony. Made of bamboo and featuring an elegant double-gourd shape, it has the unique feature of being able to be placed on a surface or hung. An airy knot adorns the front and secures a hanging loop on the back. Beautifully crafted with a lovely patina; the piece will need cleaning to restore its luster.
In very good overall condition; note a tiny crack under the base and perhaps a slight warp along the edge, though this is not certain.. This is clearly shown in my detailed photos—please look at them carefully; I’m not hiding anything!
Japanese piece, likely dating from the mid-20th century, perhaps earlier..
