Leon Sazerat, Planters, Limoges Porcelain Ball-shaped Vase With Floral Decor And Gold Leaf

A magnificent spherical planter with a floral design, entirely hand-painted and accented with gold leaf.
This beautiful vase comes from the Léon Sazerat factory (1831–1891).
Léon Sazerat was born in Limoges on April 10, 1831; he was the only Limousin porcelain maker to have completed his apprenticeship in Sèvres.
He settled in Limoges in 1852; his work garnered attention at the 1855 World’s Fair and earned him an honorable mention.
As a practitioner with a passion for research, he simultaneously pursued work in porcelain, earthenware, and enamel.
He also began producing underglaze-painted earthenware, which he exhibited in Paris in 1878. The quality of his work earned him a gold medal.
In 1886, at the height of his career, he participated in the Exhibition of Applied Arts to Industry, held in Limoges, where he exhibited a collection of 87 decorative pieces in porcelain, earthenware, and various types of stoneware.
He died on May 27, 1891. His business partner continued operations until 1894 before ceasing business.

This splendid planters bears the following stamp on its base:  L S / Limoges / France in chrome green and the letters L S engraved into the clay
Please note a hairline crack beneath the base on the exterior, near the glaze; the interior of the base, however, is free of defects (see photos).
