"bonheur Du Jour" Stamped "antoine-nicolas Lesage," Flamed Mahogany
Artist: Antoine-nicolas Lesage (1784-1841)
A magnificent treasure of the day: a tiered desk,
made entirely of fine flamed mahogany, with a buffed finish on all sides.
Stamped ANTOINE-NICOLAS LESAGE (1784–1841) under the drawer:
LESAGE, Rue Grange Batelière, No. 2, IN PARIS
circa 1800,1820
The tiered desk features four cardboard drawers with period gold-stamped decoration and knobs, secured by a central locking mechanism operated by the lock on the central drawer at the base of the tiered desk.
The sliding top is upholstered in beige leather with a gold-painted piping border.
The central drawer opens onto a tray with a compartment that slides toward the back to provide additional storage space.
The curved front legs end in bronze claw feet.
The molded base is supported by four casters.
Finely chiseled bronze ornaments adorn the proximal ends of the curved legs, as well as the side columns of the tiered section.
A magnificent collector’s piece and display cabinet, a testament to French craftsmanship at the height of its artistry in the early 19th century.
