A very beautiful ring holder or cup featuring a putto, crafted in ceramic and bronze by Paul Louchet (1854–1936).
All the quality associated with this artist is evident in this beautiful Art Nouveau piece from around 1900, featuring a gilded bronze putto seated with a bunch of grapes on the rim of the ring holder. He seems to be looking at the contents with a certain joy. Note the beauty of the glaze—characteristic of the Louchet workshop—and these lovely caramel-colored hues. The base is gilded bronze, featuring fine-quality engraving with acanthus leaves and openwork panels where arrows and other weapons can be discerned.
In perfect condition, signed (see photos), circa 1900.
