Louis XV Tomb-style Chest Of Drawers Stamped "léonard Boudin" (1735–1807), Who Became A Master Cabinetmaker In 176

A remarkable Louis XV-era tomb chest, designed and stamped by cabinetmaker Léonard Boudin, who was certified as a master cabinetmaker in Paris on March 4, 1761.

Curved in shape on the front and sides, it features five drawers arranged in three rows: two upper drawers flanking a central drawer, followed by two large drawers at the bottom.

It features rich rosewood and violetwood veneer decoration, notably forming butterfly-wing motifs on the drawers.
It retains its polychrome Aleppo breccia marble top with a “bec-de-corbin” edge.

The gilded bronze hardware, with the dynamic decoration characteristic of the Rocaille style, includes foliage motifs on the side posts, handles, lock plates, and footplates joined by an elegant openwork crossbar.

The “L. BOUDIN” maker’s mark and the “JME” guild hallmark are visible on the frame, on the right side beneath the marble top.

The piece as a whole displays fine craftsmanship and traditional construction. The drawer interiors are made of oak.
