England, Circa 1800–1820. Small Cabinet In The Chinese Style

The fascination with chinoiserie persisted in England at the end of the 18th century; everyone is familiar with the Brighton Pavilion, a residence built between 1815 and 1822 in an extravagant style for King George IV.
This charming little piece of furniture, crafted from light-colored wood and serving as a backdrop for Asian-style scenes depicted on all its surfaces, is a masterpiece of miniaturization. 
Two doors, each fitted with a steel-reinforced lock, open to reveal a set of drawers of various sizes. They are adorned with decorative motifs on all sides.
The largest drawer at the bottom conceals a small folding writing desk covered in velvet.
The next one above contains numerous compartments with lids related to writing (a small bound case holds blotting paper for testing quills).
It rests on a plinth set upon gilded metal balls decorated with foliage.
We have chosen to present the piece as-is, leaving it up to the buyer to decide the extent of restoration desired. 
Indeed, it shows signs of wear on the exterior decoration as well as a crack on the back; the gilding on the legs needs cleaning; and there are small missing pieces in the fittings of the two lower drawers (which are fairly simple to replace, as the templates are included). 
However, the piece as a whole is sufficiently cohesive—the fronts of the interior drawers are perfect, including the knobs—for this charming miniature piece of furniture to regain its magnificence.
