Silver And Semiprecious Silverknight – Hanau, Late 19th Century
Provenance
A German work from Hanau, created in the late 19th century in the historicist style. This statuette embodies a Neo-Renaissance aesthetic, combining a depiction of the chivalric world with polychrome ornamentation.
Description
The figure is depicted standing, clad in armor and wearing a helmet with the visor raised, topped with a plume. His uncovered face features a mustache with curled ends and expressive features. In his right hand, the knight holds a long halberd held vertically; his left hand rests on the upper part of a shield with scalloped and curled edges.
The armor is detailed with articulated shoulder guards, gauntlets, thigh guards with overlapping plates, and greaves extending into foot guards. Stones of various colors adorn the breastplate, collar, belt, and several parts of the limbs. The shield bears an engraved design combining a rearing lion with a checkered field.
The figure rests on an oval base adorned with plant motifs, edged by a series of purple cabochons set in raised mounts. This arrangement highlights the outline of the base and balances the verticality of the composition. The reverse side also features details of the armor and its ornaments. Total weight: 522 g.
Technique and Materials
The statuette is made of 800/1000 silver, decorated with semiprecious stones. The surface combines raised details with engraved motifs, particularly on the shield and the top of the base. The cabochons are held in place by metal settings. The edge of the base bears the mark “800” and a monogram hallmark beneath a crown.
Date
Late 19th century. The armor motifs, the theatrical composition, and the combination of silver with colorful adornments reflect the historicist and Neo-Renaissance style chosen for this piece.
Condition
Very good condition. The figurine is complete, with all its stones and details, and shows no signs of repair. A natural patina covers the silver and highlights the recesses of the decoration, accompanied by slight superficial signs of wear.

An ornamental object intended for display in a showcase, on a piece of furniture, or in a collector’s cabinet. Its dimensions allow for close-up observation of the details of the armor and the inlaid decoration.
