Pair Of Antique Gueridon Tables In Rosewood From The Luigi Filippo Period, Mid-19th Century

An elegant pair of gueridons crafted from solid rosewood and rosewood veneer, of Sicilian origin and dating from the Louis-Philippe period in the mid-19th century. The design stands out for its striking dynamism and the exceptional craftsmanship in the sculptural woodwork. The top features a refined, mixed-curved shape enhanced by molded edges that gently follow the undulating profile. The supporting structure is a masterpiece of movement. It consists of finely carved double-volute legs, or “opposite C-shaped” legs, that move apart and come back together, creating a sinuous profile. The supports are richly decorated with floral elements, volutes, and scrolls, typical of the Neo-Rococo style of the period. At the bottom is a small circular connecting shelf, also molded. This element not only adds practicality for displaying small objects but also serves as a fundamental structural component, stabilizing the complex curvature of the legs. The feet terminate at the base with elegant scroll or inverted volute motifs, imparting a sense of lightness and visual elegance. These pieces were originally designed in pairs to ensure the geometric symmetry of noble salons. Today, they can serve a variety of high-end purposes, such as elegant stands for sculptures or important vases, and can be incorporated into any type of setting, whether classic or modern.
