19th-century Painting – View Of A City With A Bridge And Figures – Oil On Canvas
A charming 19th-century oil on canvas, depicting a particularly detailed architectural view, brought to life by numerous figures.
The composition is centered around a multi-arched stone bridge, flanked by a large complex of buildings. Several figures enliven the scene, along with a horse-drawn carriage, lending this work genuine documentary value and an atmosphere of everyday life.
The painter took great care to accurately depict the architecture, the numerous windows, the roofs and chimneys, as well as the various figures. The sky, rendered largely in blue-gray tones, lends depth and luminosity to the composition.
The work is executed in oil on canvas and retains its original wooden stretcher. It is presented in an antique gilded frame with moldings.
A signature painted in red appears in the lower right corner. It is clearly visible but remains difficult to identify with certainty; we therefore prefer to present the painting as a signed work, artist to be identified.
