Louis XIV-era Embossed Leather Messenger's Case—late 17th To Early 18th Century
A Louis XIV-era messenger's chest made of wood covered in brown embossed and gilded leather, with rich openwork ironwork decoration on all sides. The very slightly domed lid is topped with a carrying handle; the front retains its lock plate and wrought-iron latch. The interior is lined with original marbled paper.
Late 17th – early 18th century.
Dimensions: length 19 cm – depth 13 cm – height 8 cm.
In good overall condition with a superb patina from use. Minor historical restoration beneath the carrying handle; normal wear and scuffing on the corners of the leather. The interior shows a few visible areas of material loss.
