Rare Carved Corporate Plaque Dated 1727 18th Century Freemasonry ? Folk Art 18th Century
Interesting 18th-century plaque in bas-relief carved wood, made in 1727, as indicated by the inscription engraved on the reverse: "TREFEL FECIT A° D° 1727".
A rich, symmetrically organized decorative composition, adorned with leafy garlands and a profusion of antique tools: axes, chisels, planes, compasses and various instruments related to the woodworking and building trades.
As the whole evokes a celebration of craft skills, it is most likely a corporate or companion plaque, which may have served as a workshop sign, trade panel or masterpiece made by a craftsman.
A notch visible at the top probably enabled it to be hung.
Dimensions: height 20 cm - width 28 cm - thickness 2.5 cm.
Good condition. Wear, old patina, traces of use.
