Set Of 4 Spears From Rdc (formerly Zaire), Circa 1910

These four spears all come from Central Africa, actually Democratic Republic of the Congo, formerly Zaire (formerly the Belgian Congo).They were brought back between 1905 and 1910.
The metal parts are in very good condition, but the bamboo shafts have warped over time due to improper storage. They remain flexible and can be displayed upright bymounting them on a wall if desired
Determining the ethnic origin of each spear is always somewhat difficult. The two widest ones are thought to belong to the Ngbandi ethnic group, the narrowest is believed to originate from eastern Zaire (Kivu region), and the one with the blade featuring a re-drilled hole may be the work of the Tetela. See“Waffe auf Zentral-Afrika” (Museum für Völkerkunde,Frankfurt am Main 1985), one of the few works which give information about spears, bows,and arrows.

The asking price for this lot is modest and could help expand a display dedicated to primitive art at little cost
