Versailles Almanac, 1782
A rare and beautiful copy of theAlmanach de Versailles for the year 1782, during the reign of Louis XVI. Printed in Versailles by Blaizot (Bookseller to the King & Queen, Rue Satory) and in Paris by Valade, Langlois, Deschamps, and Froullé, this almanac is an indispensable historical document. It offers a comprehensive overview of the French Court in the early 1780s, at the height of the American War of Independence. The work contains a meticulous description of the city, the Palace, and the Park, along with the household accounts of the King, Queen Marie-Antoinette, and the Royal Family, as well as a directory of the offices of the Ministers, the Provost of the Palace, and the City Government. The title page is adorned with a beautiful engraved medallion bearing the royal coat of arms. Condition and Binding:
- Period binding: Full light or fawn-colored glazed calfskin, perfectly executed in the 18th-century style.
- Spine: Spine with 5 raised bands richly decorated with floral panels in gilded metalwork, with a double gilded fillet highlighting the raised bands.
- Title labels: Brown morocco title label with gold lettering "ALMANA. DE VERSAIL." and a gold-embossed date label "ANNÉE 1782".
- Condition: Binding in excellent condition, gilding bright and lustrous. Headbands and clamps in good condition (slight normal wear at the corners, very discreet). Interior fresh, paper bright white and sound.
