An Empire Mahogany Console Table. Early 19th Century.
An Empire mahogany console table, adorned with gilt-bronze mounts, surmounted by a grey marble top.
The frieze, fitted with a drawer to the front, is centred by a gilt-bronze plaque depicting two lions drinking from a gushing fountain, flanked at the corners by figures of Vestal Virgins. The front supports, formed as sinuous consoles, are surmounted by rosette motifs and adorned with foliate palmette mounts in gilt bronze, terminating in stylised claw feet.
At the back, two straight pilasters frame a mirror panel. The curved base is accented by a horizontal moulding.
