French work, Empire Consulate period Lacquered wood console in circular shape, topped with a sea green marble top. It has a superb tripod base depicting busts of sphinxes finished in lion's hocks. Their chest is decorated with foliage and palmettes all around the waistband. Note the fine quality of sculpture of these winged figures, lacquer with some retouching restored.
