Biscuit From The Manufacture Nationale De Sèvres, Based On A Design By J-b Pigalle, 1894

Artist: Jean-baptiste Pigalle (1714-1785) , Réalisé Par La Manufacture Nationale De Sevres
A charming biscuit porcelain group titled “The Cherub and the Bird” from the Manufacture Nationale de Sèvres, based on a design by the famous Jean-Baptiste PIGALLE (1714–1785).

The artist’s delicate touch is evident in this tender scene, in which a child feeds seeds to a bird. Note the remarkable attention to detail (the child’s head, his hair, his chubby little feet and fingers, the back with the relief of the shoulder blades, and the expression in his eyes). I’ll let you be the judge.

The piece is signed with the traditional “SEVRES” cartouche of the National Manufactory; it also bears the initials of the artist who created it, along with the number 94 for 1894. A small “2” next to it—perhaps indicating a second edition?

This group is clearly identified as the work of Jean-Baptiste Pigalle; this model can also be found in bronze or traditional ceramic.

In perfect condition, not a single flaw, 20 cm tall, from 1894.

A sublime antique bisque from the Manufacture Nationale, featuring illustrious signatures
