The antique Floral Still Life painting presented here is a refined early 20th-century oil painting on canvas, characterised by

a rich composition of white rose flowers, arranged in an elegant planter decorated with floral and oriental-inspired motifs.

The numerous blossoms, illuminated by delicate cream and ivory tones, contrast with the intense green of the leaves and the

darker background, creating a suggestive effect of light and depth.

The warm palette, dominated by ochre, pink, green, cream and brown, gives the artwork an elegant decorative character.

Antique painting with flowers, floral still life, dated 1923 and signed at the lower right by Willy Van Riet (1887-1928),

Belgian painter, remembered for his portraits of female figures, flowers, still lifes and landscapes.

Willy Van Riet (1887-1928) was born in Antwerp and received his artistic training at the Academy of Antwerp and subsequently

at the National Higher Institute of Fine Arts in Antwerp (NHISKA), where he studied under Juliaan De Vriendt,

an important Belgian painter.

During his training years, he received important awards, including the Van Lerius Prize and the Nicaise De Keyser Prize.

In 1913, he also achieved third place in the Prix de Rome, a prestigious award intended for young artists.

His works reveal influences from Belgian Realist and Impressionist painting, combined with a decorative taste close to Japonisme,

evident in the use of screens, textiles, furniture and oriental-inspired objects, as seen in the artwork presented here.

The antique painting is presented with a gilded frame in fine gold leaf, contemporary with the painting.

The antique frame and the oil painting have been carefully and professionally restored. 1930s.
