Antique Painting, Gaston Anglade, Landscape Painting, Corrèze, Nature Painting, XX. (qp733)
The Antique Paintings category, Landscape with Hills and River, presents an oil on canvas painting from the early 20th century,
depicting the French heathland, immersed in a natural landscape of remarkable charm and atmosphere.
The scene portrays a typical rolling countryside of rural France, with wide expanses of flowering heather in soft pink and violet hues,
crossed by a gentle watercourse reflecting the warm light of the sky.
These landscape paintings represent the Corrèze Valley, bathed in a golden, warm light, as stated on the back of the canvas
by the artist himself: “Ses Bruyères à Argentat – Corrèze.”
The painting captures blooming heather and conveys a strong sense of calm and contemplation, enhanced by the vast, open horizon.
The artwork is dated 1912 and signed lower right by Gaston Anglade, a French landscape painter.
Gaston Anglade (1854-1919) was born in Bordeaux. He was a French painter renowned for his poetic landscapes of the French
countryside, particularly heathlands, valleys, and rural views, which form the core of his artistic output.
He began his professional career as a music teacher in Bordeaux, but his passion for painting soon led him to devote himself
entirely to oil painting. He studied under Joseph Baudet and Léon Germain Pelouse, during which time he developed a naturalistic
and painterly style, strongly influenced by his ability to capture luminous atmospheres and subtle light effects typical of the French landscape.
Anglade regularly exhibited at the Salon of the Société des Artistes Français, of which he was a member, gaining recognition in the
Parisian art scene of the late 19th and early 20th centuries. The oil painting is housed in a fine original gilded frame from the late 19th century.
Both the antique frame and the canvas have been professionally and carefully restored.
