French Rural Painting, Louis-alexandre Cabié, Antique Oil Landscape Painting, Barbizon (qp773)

Artist: Louis-alexandre Cabié (1853-1939)

The category antique paintings, landscape paintings, presented here features a refined antique oil painting on canvas, created in France

in the early 20th century.

The antique painting depicts an evocative view of the French countryside, immersed in soft natural light.

The composition develops through a dirt path crossing the vegetation in the foreground and leading the eye towards the gentle hills of the

rolling landscape in the background.

The brushstrokes, soft yet dynamic, recreate the natural irregularity of the vegetation and give the scene a remarkable sense of immediacy and luminosity.

This antique painting is dated 1912 and signed by Louis Cabié, French painter, who devoted most of his artistic production to landscape painting.

Louis-Alexandre Cabié (1853-1939) was born in Dol-de-Bretagne, but moved to Bordeaux at a very young age. His artistic training was primarily

connected with Hippolyte Pradelles and, from around 1885, with the celebrated landscape painter Henri-Joseph Harpignies, who also became his friend.

Cabié's painting was also influenced by the French landscape tradition of Jean-Baptiste-Camille Corot and Théodore Rousseau.

He worked directly from nature. His works mainly depict the landscapes of south-western France: the countryside of Gironde, the Landes, Saintonge,

Charente, Dordogne and the Atlantic coast.

In 1887 he began exhibiting at the Salon des Artistes Français, where he received awards and medals. In 1908 he was appointed Knight of the Légion

d'honneur, with Henri Harpignies as his sponsor.

Today, works by Louis-Alexandre Cabié are held in several French museums, including the Musée du Louvre, the Musée d'Orsay, and the museums

of Alençon, Angers, Chambéry and Périgueux.

The painting is presented in an original and authentic gilded frame.

The antique frame and the painting have been professionally and carefully restored.
