Emile Baes (1889–1954) was a Belgian painter of historical scenes, nudes, landscapes, still lifes, and portraits. Illustrator and writer. He was a student of J. Stallaert at the Academy of Fine Arts in Brussels. He also studied under Cabanel and Bonnat in Paris. He began by painting historical scenes and portraits in an academic style. But he would find his true calling and achieve success as a painter of society figures and, above all, nudes. Influenced by Symbolism and Orientalism, he would sometimes punctuate his canvases with splashes of pure color. He was a member of the Institut de France. The artist is listed in Bénézit, Arto, and Piron (with examples of signatures and a photograph of his work). Listed on Artprice, Artnet, Akoun, etc....
