Louis XVI-era Clock In Patinated And Gilded Bronze—an Allegory Of Love, Late 18th Century

A clock made of green-patinated bronze and gilded bronze. Resting on six spindle-shaped feet, it is shaped like a milestone, flanked by fluted scrolls with asparagus motifs and foliage decorations, trophies of musical instruments, and, at the center, a frieze adorned with putti. The white enamel dial is signed “AF” in Paris. It is surmountedby an allegory of love in the form of a woman dressed in antique style, carrying an arrow, a quiver, and a torch. Beautiful hands in chiseled and gilded bronze, openwork in the shape of a fleur-de-lis. Original wire-driven movement. The clock hasretained its two domed glass covers, front and back.

Louis XVI Directoire period, late 18th century, circa 1790–1800.

Our clock is in very good overall condition; it has all its accessories—pendulum, keys—and is in working order.
